If you are familiar with Target stores, then you might have heard about this recent discrimination complaint at one Texas location. The Target in Houston employee has sued the corporation after claiming that he has been harassed constantly at his job due to his face and disabilities.
The man filed his lawsuit on July 23 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas. His lawsuit claims that he has been working at Target since 1993 and at three different locations around the Houston area. He claims he is autistic and suffers from dyslexia. He also has two rods in his back that impair his ability to be mobile, but he claims they don’t prevent him from performing his job functions.
The man claims that he worked and was supervised by mostly black co-workers who frequently moved his schedule around or gave him menial tasks that they knew were difficult since he was disabled. He claims that in 2009, he was abused and harassed by his co-workers and supervisor. He reported the incident to human resources, but when he did, the harassment became worse. He says he was taunted, and others made false accusations against him.
In October 2011, the man again complained about his treatment. Then, his hours were suddenly reduced drastically. Prior to complaining, he was working 35 to 40 hours a week and was receiving benefits. After the complaint, he was lowered to five hours a week without benefits. He claims that even after filing a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, he has seen no compensation or a return to his normal work schedule. Now, he’s seeking compensation from Target for this treatment.
